Villa Abd-el-Tif – Villa Djamel Abdel Latif, also known as La Villa Medicis Algerian, which is located in Algiers. It is noteworthy that it was founded in 1907 in imitation of the French Academy in Rome, the Villa Medici. Until 1962 it was home to laureates of the Abdellatif Prize, who were awarded scholarships to continue their studies for two years in Algeria. It now houses the headquarters of the Algerian Agency for Cultural Influence (AARC). Unlike the Villa Medicis in Rome, there was no permanent French director, and the artists had to organize the villa’s activities in Algeria on financial terms. The villa was a teaching place for local artists.
