Description of the place
During the years of apartheid, Robben Island served as a prison for political activists, and the island is famous for being the place of detention of the famous political figure in South African history, Nelson Mandela, during his arrest, as he remained there for nearly 27 years in his prison on the island. A hospital and institute for mental illness, colonies and military bases were also built on the island during its rich history, but now it is among the famous tourist areas in the region, whether to enjoy nature or learn about the history of this wonderful country.
