Spike Island

Spike Island is located in the port of Cork, Ireland, and its area is about 103 acres. It was originally a site for a monastic settlement, and it is dominated by a fort dating back to the eighteenth century called “Fort Mitchell.” The island is distinguished by its strategic location that made it a major site for defense. The city, and was also used as a prison at some point, and it is also worth noting that it won the Best European Tourist Attraction award at the 2017 World Travel Awards.
