Adiyaman is a city located in southeastern Turkey and is the capital of Adiyaman Province. It is one of the fastest growing cities in Turkey. The city officially had the Ottoman Turkish name Hısn-ı Mansur (“Castle of Mansur”) until 1926, named after the fortified castle located on a hill around which the city grew. Since the official name was difficult for the locals to pronounce, people have been referring to the city as adiy yaman since the early 19th century, which means “its name is difficult” or “(the place) whose name is difficult” in Turkish.

Karakus Tumulus – Karakosh Corpse is a funerary monument for Queen Isaiah and the Commagene princesses, built between 20 and 30 BC near the modern village of Çukurtaş in Qahta district of Adiyaman Province. Karakosh means “black bird”, after the column surmounted by an eagle. In the place, where the corpse is surrounded by groups of three columns, each 9 meters high, and above the columns are inscriptions and statues of a bull, a lion, and an eagle, and each inscription indicates the presence of a royal tomb that includes three women.
