Aammiq Wetland
Aammiq Wetland
The largest wetland home to Lebanon's remaining freshwater, Ammiq is a remnant of the more extensive swamps and lakes that once existed in the Bekaa Valley. Today it is classified as a bird habitat in the Middle East, included in the Wetlands Directory of the Middle East, declared as a “Biosphere Reserve” by UNESCO, and recently designated, together with the Chouf Cedar Nature Reserve, a “Biosphere Reserve” by UNESCO. The reserve is characterized by the beauty of its nature, with fertile green plains and stagnant water pools, and birds and livestock that take this place as a home. The reserve is visited by many local residents and tourists, who love nature, as they wander along the long paths inside it or camp in it, or even barbecue with friends or family, but hunting is prohibited inside it as it is a natural reserve for wildlife.
