Description of the place
Museo Alberto Sampaio was founded in 1928 to house the artworks and other holdings of the former Collegiate Church of Our Lady of Oliveira and other churches and monasteries of Guimarães. It is located in the heart of the old historic center of the city on the site where the Countess Mumadona ordered the construction of a convent in the 10th century, The museum contains collections of great interest, of particular note is the exhibition of statues dating from the 13th to the 18th centuries made of limestone and wood.
