Altena Castle
This medieval castle was once the residence of a county delegate as it was built by the early nobles who ruled the state. Today, the 13th-century castle houses a museum and several interactive exhibits, including a museum dedicated to the Counts of Mark, powerful lords of the Holy Roman Empire. The site also hosts cultural events, such as medieval festivals and marionettes. The castle is characterized by its attractive location, in the middle of a small hill overlooking the middle village and surrounded by trees from all directions.
