Arc de Triomphe
Arc de Triomphe
Construction of the Arc de Triomphe began in 1806 by order of Napoleon I to honor the victories of the Grande Armée. Inspired by the great arches of antiquity, this monument combines the monumental with the symbolic and has always played a central role in the national republican consciousness, with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the Great War lit every night by a torch. An exhibition explains the arch's symbolic significance on a national and international level. The terrace also offers wonderful views throughout the day and night across the city and its magnificent boulevards.
