Basilica of St Mary of Alicante

The Basilica of Santa Maria is the oldest church in the city of Alicante, dating back to the 14th century. It was built on the ruins of the largest mosque in Alicante. It has a single, non-cruciform nave with side chapels between the buttresses. The basilica's baroque facade is crowned by two asymmetrical towers; One was built in the 14th century and the other in the 18th century, and its highlights include the entrance with a picture of the Virgin Mary by sculptor Juan Bautista Borja.
