Name of the place
Basilica Papale San Paolo fuori le Mura
Basilica Papale San Paolo fuori le Mura
It is one of the four great ancient papal basilicas in Rome, along with the basilicas of St. John of the Lateran, St. Peter's, and St. Mary Major. This church is located within Italian territory and not within the territory of the Vatican State, but the Holy See there owns the church, and Italy is legally obliged to recognize its full ownership and waive from it the “immunity granted under international law to the seat of diplomatic representatives of foreign states.” This church also enjoys its distinctive architectural character, its walls decorated with religious paintings, and its green garden in the middle of which is a large statue.
