Benedictine monastery of St. Mang
The Benedictine Abbey of St. Mang was founded in the first half of the ninth century as a monastery owned by the Prince-Bishops of Augsburg. It is a sacred place for the inhabitants of the city of Füssen, because the body of St. Mang, who died in the ninth century, was found in it uncorrupted, and this was, in the opinion of many of the monastery’s visitors, evidence of its sanctity. Throughout history, the municipality of Füssen has carried out many modernizations on the buildings of the monastery. In the eighteenth century, it transformed its irregular and shapeless buildings into identical buildings.
