Description of the place
The monument to the mayor and statesman of Bremen, Johann Smidt, is a gigantic monument designed to commemorate the mayor, and also indicates the date of the city's founding. Erected in 1888 by Leipzig German sculptor Werner Stein, it is situated in the heart of Bremerhaven's lively Theodor Hess square. The monument is surrounded by many service facilities such as restaurants, cafes and various stores.
