Description of the place
Calshot Castle was built as a coastal artillery fort by order of King Henry VIII between 1539 and 1540 for the purpose of providing protection from French and Romanian invasion and to defend the entrance to the waters of the city of Southampton. For picnics, a café and a shop selling information books and souvenirs.
