The City of the Dead or the Cairo Cemetery, also referred to as the Qarafa is a series of vast tombs dating back to the Islamic era in Cairo, which extends to the north and south of the Cairo Citadel, down the Mokattam Hills and outside the historic city walls, covering an area of about 4 miles . It has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site entitled "Historic Cairo".
