Company's Gardens
The Company Gardens, Cape Town's oldest garden, is a large public botanical garden, providing a leafy setting for long walks. You can sit on one of the benches flanking the winding paths, take a picnic, or pick up the brochure from the visitor center and take a self-guided tour of the park's attractions. Admire the flowers, herbs, and vegetables, along with a wealth of antiquities, including the still-present Rutherford Fountain. Housed in the original place where it was erected in 1864, the well pump embedded in an oak tree dating back to 1842, there is also the oldest tree planted in South Africa, saffron trees propped up on massive steel crutches.
