Documentation and Cultural Center of German Sinti and Roma
The German Sinti and Roma Culture and Documentation Center was founded in Heidelberg in the early 1990s as a memorial to the Sinti and Roma people killed by the National Socialist Party. It was opened after several years of investigation and collecting stories from survivors of the massacre. The inauguration was supported by the presence of many survivors from the Rum and Sinti tribes. The museum is the world's first permanent exhibition on the genocide committed by the Nazis against those tribes. The Documentation Center consists of three levels and covers an area of approximately 700 square metres.
