Floating Stone Statue

Designed by the famous German sculptor Christian Tobin, these granite columns represent the Karakoz, Aywaz and the famous shadow puppets of Bursa. The water in the floating stone statue flows from the joints between the two stones in each column with the upper stone rotating over the fixed lower stone. This is a kinetic water sculpture which means that the upper 7 and 8 ton stones are not connected to the lower stones. The upper stones rotate freely by the force of the water flowing upwards at the joints between the stones, yet the stones remain stacked by the balance of gravity; This is where art meets science!
