Al-Jilf Al-Kabir National Reserve is located in the New Valley Governorate on the Libyan-Sudanese border. It was declared a reserve during the year 2007. It is characterized by plains of sand dunes along with ancient caves dating back to the prehistoric period. These plains are located between the Al-Jilf Al-Kabir plateau and Jabal Al-Awainat. The reserve is also famous for its Nubian sand rocks, ancient volcanic craters, mountainous areas and valleys, and it also has one of the largest meteor fields in the world. The reserve is one of the well-known destinations that attract many tourists from all over the world to enjoy the adventure of going on safari in the desert, climbing mountain peaks, and watching the picturesque landscapes.
