Grand Mosque
The Mardin Grand Mosque, which is a model of Islamic architecture, was built in the Artuqid period, and it is considered the religious symbol of Mardin with its dome and chopped minaret. The historical book, which is located on a square plate of the minaret, shows the date of construction as 1176 AD, but the current minaret was built in a new, eclectic style in the years (1888/89) AD. The building reflects the essential features of the architecture of the Artuqid period in the twelfth century, and is an important example of the plan and shape of the mosque, which appeared in the southeast in an earlier period, with the vaulted structure in front of the mihrab and advancing transversely.
