The town hall is the building that houses the local administration of the city, and is located in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. The south wing was originally built by François I from 1535 to 1551; The north wing was built by Henry IV and Louis XIII between 1605 and 1628. It was burned by the Paris Commune, along with all the city's archives. It was contained during the last days of the Commune in May 1871. The exterior was rebuilt according to the original design between 1874 and 1882. It has been the seat of the Paris commune since 1357.
