Italian Consulate
The old Italian consulate building, which is a short distance from the Corniche in Port Said, is one of the most famous historical landmarks in the city. It was built in the 1930s and is decorated with carvings and some sayings of the fascist dictator Benito Mussolini. Mussolini himself inaugurated the consulate and also delivered a historic speech there. It has been suggested that the building could be the future residence of the Italian leader in the wake of Fascist Italy's plans to take over North Africa.
