Mummification Museum in the former visitors center on the Luxor Corniche, contains multiple galleries with various exhibits that explain the art of mummification well. The museum is also sometimes closed for several hours after midday. Among the exhibits are the well-preserved mummy of a 21st-century high priest of Amun and Maharharti and a collection of stuffed animals. In addition to the tools and materials used in the mummification process, such as the small metal spoon used to remove the brain from the skull. Also included are many artifacts that were part of the journey of transformation of beings into the mummy to prepare for entering the afterlife, as well as some coffins with picturesque painted decorations. Presiding over the entrance is a handsome statuette of the jackal god Anubis, the mummification god who helped Isis transform her brother-husband Osiris into the first mummy.
