The National Library of Australia collects, preserves and shares Australia's documentary heritage in this huge building with unique architectural design. The library's primary role is to ensure that documentary resources of national importance relating to Australia and the Australian people, as well as material of interest to non-Australian libraries, are collected, preserved and made available either through the library itself or through collaborative arrangements with other libraries. The library is characterized by its spacious internal and external spaces that allow visitors to read and do various activities in a quiet atmosphere.
