The old bishopric was built in 1751 to house the classrooms of the military academy established by Louis XV to provide military and chivalry education to some of the noblemen of the province, there was a library, a drawing room, a map room, study rooms and master suites, while the games and stables were in the adjoining building The building, after becoming a private residence in the 19th century, was purchased and renovated in 1905, and became the bishopric of Perpignan until 2014, when it was acquired by the city to house the Sanche exhibition centre.
