Phansi Museum
The museum houses the largest collections of art, crafts and traditional artifacts in South Africa. The collection is beautifully displayed in the Robarts House, which was built in 1898 and is now a restored Victorian National Monument. The building was Lester Roberts, and she was one of the pioneering female anthropologists. In South Africa, she also authored many historical narratives. The museum displays various forms of indigenous music, performance arts, and oral history by hosting regular live events. All over South Africa, the exhibits inside the museum include beads from various regions of KwaZulu-Natal, and the Eastern Kai, as well as many fine examples from the Ndebele people. Beadworks vary from present day work to works dating back to the 19th century. View a variety of other interesting items on display, including headrests, meat dishes, carved spoons, a set of Zulu mud stoves, and glass Snuffs, earplugs, tubes, fertility dolls, and beautifully carved sticks as well as a contemporary collection of telephone wire baskets and other modern sculptures, the museum is also home to a café serving refreshments and snacks.
