Placa de la Independencia Girona
Placa de la Independencia Girona
distinctive square with a new classic taste, which many flock to because of the many restaurants. The square was inaugurated in 1778 during the reign of King Carlos III, and was designed by Martí Sureda on the site of the old convent of Sant'Agoste. Also in the center is a monument to the defenders of Girona during the siege of 1808-1809, which was designed by the sculptor Barrera. This square is mainly surrounded by buildings dating back to the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, which were built during the period of Madrid's expansion.
