Puerta del Sol

Puerta del Sol, whose name means Gate of the Sun, is located in the very center of Madrid. Puerta del Sol was given its name because of the sunshine that shines on the area most of the time. The gate began as a wide passage, where small merchants handled arrivals and departures. The square is also home to one of the most famous statues in the city, El Oso el Madronio, whose name means bear and strawberry tree. It is 4 meters high, weighs 20 tons, and is constantly surrounded by groups of tourists from all over the world.
