Roman Nymphaeum Amman
The Nymphaeum, or the main public spring of Philadelphia, as Amman was called in Hellenistic and Roman times, dates back to the end of the second century AD, just a short walk from the Roman Theater and Odeon. Nymphaeums were built over caves with running water, which were believed to be sacred to mythical nymphs, and were areas for public gatherings and were seen as a sign of the city's wealth.
