Royal Castle of Amboise

The Royal Castle of Amboise is located on top of a rocky outcrop, and enjoys a stunning panoramic view of the Loire River. It played a unique role in French history, as it was a royal residence and home to a large number of European writers and artists in the early Renaissance period, as it was the first castle in the Loire Valley. The Italianate was introduced thanks to Charles VIII, and today boasts an exceptional collection of Renaissance furniture and Gothic designs illustrating the French Renaissance art form.
