San Nicola
By far the most popular tourist attraction in Bari is the church built to house the relics of Saint Nicholas. At first glance, the building will seem easy to design and huge, but a closer look will reveal the distinction details in the carvings around its gates, where stone animals seem to guard the entrances. The large pilgrimage church, begun in 1087 and finished in 1197, is one of the finest achievements of Romanesque architecture in the region.
