Smar Jbeil Citadel

Samar Jbeil Castle is located on an honorable hill in the town of Samar Jbeil. It is a fortified military castle that contains traces of defensive divisions and fortifications, and rises about 500 meters above sea level. Its construction dates back to the Phoenician kings of Byblos, who were famous for their rock-cut palaces and castles. Then, it was inhabited by the king of Babylon, “Bakhtansar,” who carved a drawing of himself and the queen on its northern wall. Today, the remains of this castle are considered one of the most important and beautiful archaeological areas in the city of Batroun, as tourists from all over the country come to it, wanting to learn about the Phoenician civilization.
