Socoa Fort
The western part of the bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz slowly merges with the hamlet of Socoa. The area is defended by the medieval fortress of Socoa, although construction of this fort was begun during the reign of Henry IV at the end of the 6th century. Ten, but its most famous element, the round tower, was built in 1627 under the leadership of Louis XIV. It has three storeys with gun bays, a vault and an open roof, and on the eastern side there is a spiral staircase overlooking the sea.
