St. George's Church
The structure known as St. George's Church lies along the eastern edge of the Diyarbakir Citadel, abutting the city's retaining walls and overlooking the Tigris Basin to the east. The foundation date of the building is unknown, but some features, such as the use of muqarnas, indicate restorations after the Islamic conquest of the city. The building was also altered because the Artuq Sultans of Diyarbakir used the building as a palace, and the Ottomans reused it as a storehouse and prison.
