Mor Yacoub Monastery was built in 419 AD in the name of Aziz Yaqub (More Yaqub), who was born in Egypt in 330 AD, and became a priest in a small monastery in Alexandria, and from Egypt, he came to Tarsus by sea and from there to Diyarbakir, after which he settled In Salih village in Mardin. Mor Jacob was famous throughout his life for miracles such as healing the sick. The monastery was characterized by a simple building that extended over a spacious area that included the graves of many monks, some of whom lived their lives alongside St. James, and others followed his approach and method. Today, due to the passage of time, there are only archeological remains left of the monastery, which bear witness to the antiquity of this place.
