The Castle of Light
The Fortress of Light is a restored stone fort built in 1494 on top of the foundations of an existing Castilian fort. It has defended the port city of Las Palmas for centuries. Equipped with a platform of 11 cannons, this impregnable fortress was badly damaged during the invasion of Dutch pirates in 159, and since then The two-storey building has since been rebuilt, expanded and restored, declared a National Historic Monument, and today serves as a cultural and exhibition center for national and international events, housing a permanent collection of 25 pieces by artist Martín Chirino.
