Name of the place
Torre del Oro
Torre del Oro
It is a military lighthouse dating back to the time of the Romans, in the 13th century, overlooking the Guadalquivir River. The lighthouse was used in the Middle Ages as a prison and a two-tiered military watchtower. Its name is also inspired by the fact that it was plated with gold when it was built, in 1755. It is also mentioned that the upper part of the lighthouse was destroyed by an earthquake that struck the area, but it was reconstructed in the year 1760 AD.
