Yıldız Hamidiye Mosque
The Yıldız Hamidiye Mosque located in Barbaros Bulvari in Istanbul was built by Sultan Abdul Hamid II between 1884 and 1886 according to the design of architect Sarkis Baylan. It was used for the Sultan's Friday speeches, and was the site of the assassination attempt on Abdul Hamid II in 1905. The two-storey mosque is characterized by a rectangular structure and one central dome, and it has one minaret built of cut stone and a mihrab of marble. It also includes housing for the mosque’s employees, ablution facilities, men’s and women’s toilets, and a clock tower built in 1890.
