Adiyaman is a city located in southeastern Turkey and is the capital of Adiyaman Province. It is one of the fastest growing cities in Turkey. The city officially had the Ottoman Turkish name Hısn-ı Mansur (“Castle of Mansur”) until 1926, named after the fortified castle located on a hill around which the city grew. Since the official name was difficult for the locals to pronounce, people have been referring to the city as adiy yaman since the early 19th century, which means “its name is difficult” or “(the place) whose name is difficult” in Turkish.

1- Perrin Ancient City
Perrin Ancient City – The ancient city of Berrin is about 5 kilometers from the city of Adiyaman, and it is the city in which stone tombs and memorial tombs belonging to the Kingdom of Commagene were found. During the reign of the Commagene kings, it is a witness to the golden age under the Roman Empire when it was an important stopover for travelers and merchants. The most interesting features among the ruins of this ancient city are the rock tombs connected to each other through passages that decorated the tombs with relief carvings.

2- Karakus Tumulus
Karakus Tumulus – Karakosh Corpse is a funerary monument for Queen Isaiah and the Commagene princesses, built between 20 and 30 BC near the modern village of Çukurtaş in Qahta district of Adiyaman Province. Karakosh means “black bird”, after the column surmounted by an eagle. In the place, where the corpse is surrounded by groups of three columns, each 9 meters high, and above the columns are inscriptions and statues of a bull, a lion, and an eagle, and each inscription indicates the presence of a royal tomb that includes three women.

3- Cendere Bridge
Cendere Bridge – This well-preserved Roman bridge crosses the Cinderi (Ancient Chabinas River) at a point where the river emerges from an impressive gorge in the wide Qahta Valley. It was built between 198 and 200 AD by a Roman general stationed in Samsat (ancient Samosata) and dedicated to Septimius Severus, his wife Julia Domna, and their sons Caracalla and Geta. According to inscriptions, the building was funded by four of the cities of Commagene.

5- Arsameia
Arsameia – Founded in the 3rd century BC, this cult and burial site is located on Mount Nimrud where the Nimrud National Park was the summer residence of the Commagene rulers. In addition to the remains of steps and buildings on the summit plateau (with mosaics from the 2nd century BC), there are a number of inscriptions and rock-chambers on the way up. The first large relief inspired by Mithras shows Helios, while the middle relief shows King Comith Mithridates and his son Antiochus I. From here, there is a rock tunnel that leads to the burial chamber. Another picture shows Mithridates shaking hands with Hercules.
