Akcakale Castle
Akcakale Castle is located 18 kilometers west of Trabzon, and the castle was built on a terrace overlooking the sea. It is believed that the castle was built by Emperor Alexius II (Alessio II Comneno) between the years (1297-1330 AD), to protect it from the Seljuks. After the occupation of Trabzon, the castle was restored in the Ottoman era, and despite the destruction of many parts of the castle, which was built of rubble and stone, it did not go far from its original appearance. However, the wooden structure between the floors has prevented these sections from reaching the present day.
