Al Mirani Fort
Al Mirani Fort
Al-Mirani Castle was built by the Portuguese on the Al-Mirani rock, and they established a dock for ships and a stronghold at sea level under the rock in the year 1019 AH / 1610 AD. There is an inscription in the Portuguese language engraved on the southeastern wall of the lower back yard towards the port, and it seems that this inscription may have been changed after the year 1050 AH / 1640 CE, when Portugal became independent from Spain. Perhaps the Mirani Castle or Capitan Castle was always considered one of the most important forts. Miles mentioned that the Portuguese ruler in the hometown of Martino Afonso de Melao was staying there in the year 1032 AH / 1623 AD when the weather was very hot, although he used to reside most of the year in the Grays complex below the castle. It is of great historical importance and is considered one of the influential tourist attractions in the Sultanate of Oman. Where many tourists come to it to get acquainted with the splendor of the old urbanization. But at the present time it is used as a military barracks, and it is not allowed to be entered by the general visitor.
