Annecy Castle
Listed as a historic monument in 1902, Annecy Castle became the residence of the Counts of Geneva in the 13th and 14th centuries. Over the next two centuries, the castle underwent a series of successive modifications, giving it the unique appearance it has today, as its resulting structure is a combination of Medieval defensive architecture and Renaissance elegance. Annecy Castle was abandoned as a dwelling in the seventeenth century, and was later used as military barracks until 1947. In 1953, the city of Annecy bought the castle from the Ministry of Defense, and a museum was opened in it three years later, and since Since then, the castle has offered many temporary exhibitions to visitors, as well as collections related to regional heritage and underwater antiquities, as well as medieval sculptures, landscape paintings, contemporary art and animated films.
