In fact, this palace was built in the late nineteenth century for a Greek family. After the War of Independence all Greek minorities were deported to Greece and the palace was left unused for some time. Later in the early 1930's, it was bought by the local municipality and given as a gift to Turkey's founder Kemal Atatürk as a place to stay during his visits to Trabzon. The palace is located on a hill overlooking the Black Sea and is maintained and curated by the local municipality.
