Basilica Of Saint John
The Basilica of St. John was built in the 6th century under Emperor Justinian I and his wife Theodora on the supposed site of the tomb of St. John who is believed to have come to Ephesus with the Virgin Mary. Over time, earthquakes and attackers destroyed this great basilica, which was the second largest church in Anatolia at the time. Its splendid ruins can still be seen today, and information panels dotting the place highlight the miniature model of the original building, with its marble tiles and massive gate.
