Bergisel Ski Jump
To the south of Innsbruck rises the 746-meter hill known as Bergisel, famous all over the world for its great winter sports. It was built in 2003, which offers great views of the city. Long before the Olympic Games, the hill was the site of heroic battles in 1809 when Trillian peasants liberated their capital from occupying French and Bavarian forces. On the north side of the hill, below the ski jump, stand memorials to those who fought for their freedom, including the Andreas Hofer monument built in 1893.
