Bibliotheca Alexandrina

This library is an 11-storey cylindrical-shaped building that houses more than eight million books. This exquisitely designed cultural center is a revival of the ancient library of Alexandria and houses a collection of museums, as well as one of the most ambitious libraries in the modern world. Its structure - a giant sun disk - presides over the waterfront promenade, and inside it contains colossal reading rooms housing eight million volumes. Visitors can explore a range of beautiful galleries below the main library. There is the Museum of Manuscripts with its impressive collection of texts and ancient lines, and the Museum of Antiquities with Greek and Roman antiquities and statues that were found during underwater excavations in the port, and this is one of the most important attractions for tourists in it. There are also rotating art exhibitions, a permanent Egyptian folk art collection, a science museum, and a planetarium aimed squarely at children.
