Botanical Garden (Hortus Botanicus)
Created in 1638, this picturesque garden is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It was originally a medicinal herb garden, and in 1877 it became part of the University of Amsterdam. Today, there are more than 6,000 plants comprising 4,000 species blooming in the garden and greenhouses. With its tropical greenhouses, it's also a great place to visit on a cold, rainy day! The garden also includes many rare plant species. The garden is designed in a striking manner and suits its purpose.
