The Cagaloglu Turkish Bath was built in 1741 to provide revenue for both the Hagia Sophia Mosque and Mahmud I's library; The Ottoman Sultan at that time, and its architectural plans were designed by the court engineer Suleiman Agha, and it was built by Abdullah Agha. Today, the bath has great historical and architectural importance, as it is the last large Turkish bath to be built before Sultan Mustafa III banned the construction of large baths. In 1768 due to the city's growing needs for water and firewood, the Cagaloglu Hammam is also one of the largest double Turkish baths in Istanbul, and features Baroque elements rarely seen in Ottoman architecture.
