Castle of the Moors
The Castle of the Moors or the Castle of the Moroccans is a military fortification that testifies to the Islamic presence in the region. It was probably built between the eighth and ninth centuries, and expanded after its recovery. It is located on an exposed rocky outcrop. This high point provided the Moroccans with a strategic view along the coast and the surrounding lands. It served as a watchtower for them, ensuring the protection of the city of Lisbon and its surroundings.
