Chimtou

The archaeological site of Chemto, which is considered the largest marble quarry in ancient North Africa and the home of the Numidia civilization, is located in the northwest of the country, and it is one of the attractions that attracts a good number of tourists every year, as it was a source of yellow marble of high value All over the Roman world for its great similarity with gold, and today it includes a museum dedicated to documenting the history of Shemto, in which clothes from the northwest, jewelry and collectibles that illustrate the lifestyle in Bedouin tents, funerary monuments, the ancient Numidian facade, dazzling marble pieces, and a beautiful mosaic floor representing the four seasons and some exhibits that The technology used in quarrying and transporting marble is explained, along with a large amphitheater with a capacity of 200 people, Roman mills and water turbines located outside. Explanatory and informative panels are distributed throughout, and are printed in Arabic, French, German and English.
