Cistern of Aspar
The Aspar Cistern was a huge water tank on the fifth hill of Constantinople. It was built by the aristocrat Aspar in the year 459. It is 152 meters long on each side and about 10-11 meters deep, while its brick and stone walls are about 5.2 meters, and had a capacity of 250,000 cubic metres. Brick stamps dating back to the fifth century were found in it. Later, a water tower was added near the northwest corner of the cistern to help regulate the flow of water. By the 16th century, this historical monument was being used as a park, and in 2012, it was turned into a public park.
